U.S. sales of minivans plunged by more than one-fifth, year-over-year, to 37,851 units in October 2016, the second consecutive sub-40K month.

After surging through much of 2016, the slowdown in minivan sales now is caused by previous leaders. The Toyota Sienna fell 25% in October and is down 7% this year. Meanwhile at Chrysler, the clear-out of discounted Town & Countrys is mostly over and the Pacifica is not yet living up to the Town & Country's former sales pace.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles nevertheless owned 52% of America's minivan market in October 2016 thanks to the Grand Caravan's huge victory over the next-best-selling Sienna. (The Pacifica and Honda Odyssey weren't far behind the Toyota.) Although Grand Caravan sales dipped sharply, the Sienna was nearly 4000 sales abaft.

 45% of the minivans sold in America in the first ten months of 2016 were Chryslers and Dodges.
