Small SUV Sales In America - November 2016 YTD

Largely due to a sharp declines from a handful of domestic nameplates, U.S. sales of small SUVs/crossovers decreased marginally in November 2016 despite the auto market's forward surge.

Jeep Cherokee volume plunged 37%, a loss of 6739 sales for the model that was – until November – Jeep's best seller. The GMC Terrain, approaching replacement, tumbled 31%. Jeep's Compass – soon transitioning – and the now dying Jeep Patriot also reported declines, and the Dodge Journey took an 11% dive. 

 Add the top-selling Honda CR-V's 1% downturn – a new CR-V arrives this month – into the mix and the gains produced by numerous other compact crossovers were washed out.

November was the Volkswagen Tiguan's second-best U.S. sales month ever. The Kia Sportage jumped by a third. The Subau Forester, Mazda CX-5, and Hyundai Tucson? On the up and up. The Toyota RAV4, which led all SUVs/crossovers in November volume, rose 3%. 

 Subcompact crossovers, meanwhile, jumped 24% to 48,467 units, led by the Jeep Renegade with its second-best month of U.S. sales to date. 

 Renegade sales climbed into five-digit territory for the third time in the last five months, rising 30%, year-over-year. A huge Honda HR-V uptick and a surge from GM's subcompact twins propelled the segment.
